WHITE LADY IN RUINS 1977
Elliott's third elegy for Lady Margaret Pomeroy, a haunting figure stands head bowed in mourning in England's allegedly most haunted ruins. Lady Margaret was beautiful and had a less attractive sister. They both fell in love with the same man. Lady Margaret was locked in the dungeon by her jealous sister until she slowly and painfully starved to death. Although Elliott did not know it at the time, he shot the piece exactly above the dungeon, the entrance to which is seen at lower left. The piece is much loved and has a haunting, timeless, spiritual quality to it.
