APHRODITE AUTOGENESIS

This is one of the pioneering digital images that Elliott created in the early to mid Nineties. He created the masterpieces at a time when the world still hotly debated whether or not art could be created with computers (it can't it takes artists). Like all of Elliott's images, few can be explained literally, but one can observe here the idea of a love goddess genetically engineering herself. In the original Aphrodite myth, as she rose up from the sea on a shell, the water droplets falling from her body turned to pearls - hence the hybrid 'atomic DNA string pearls'. Elliott created this piece in 1995 and it was first published in the Times in February 1998 when Elliott held his legendary 'Art For A New Millennium' exhibition. The Times referred to this new Art as "stunning images"..
